Public Art

The power possessed by artwork, out in the public eye, can be transformative! It stimulates conversation and generates ideas, emotional experiences, and even at times an intangible thought provoking impact.

I have learned how to navigate within a public bureaucracy, budgets, deadlines, and working with the general public to gauge their response to a proposed project. I am also a trained welder fitter and have been fabricating artworks out of steel for over 40 years including multiple large-scale installations within both the public and private sector.

Creating artworks that stimulate thought and emotional reactions while encouraging people’s engagement is an exciting process.

Gateway to Downey

Gateway to Downey

Commissioned by: Westland Real Estate Group, Location: Downey Gateway, Downey, CA
Sunlight Shadows provides a window from which to glimpse reflective ideas that relate to Downey’s history and cultural development. It illustrates community involvement with retail, family fun, dining out, performance, even invention and innovative thought.
The shadows are abstracted through the light refraction, and dance on the ground enabling a variety of interpretations.
The goal is to encourage the general public to enjoy, learn, and be inspired while viewing images that reference
pivotal moments for the City of Downey.

Rosie’s Dog Beach

Rosie’s Dog Beach Public Art project is the result of a statewide competition to select an artist to create artwork for the leash free area next to the ocean in Belmont Shore, Long Beach, CA. It is comprised of 19 different figures cut out of 3/8” steel and powder coated. It has been extremely well received by the public as it displays the playful attitudes dogs exhibit when they visit the beach.
